The mill

A family millrun like an exporter.

Three generations have run this yard since the 1980s, and every container still leaves under the family’s own eyes.

  • One family owns the yard, the machines and the reply to your enquiry.
  • Every batch is tested before it is pressed.

Why buy from the mill

Direct from the yard, with nothing lost in between.

Husk to container

Seven steps, all on our own yard.

Scroll sideways through the mill to follow one husk from the estate to the container door.

The full process

Husk

We buy mature husks from the estates around Matara, because fresh husk gives longer and brighter fibre.

Soak

Husks are soaked so the fibre separates from the pith without breaking.

Defibre

Spiked drums tear each husk into bristle fibre, mixed fibre and pith.

Dry

Fibre and pith dry in the open sun until moisture falls below the grade.

Grade

We sieve the pith, clean the fibre and test every batch for EC, pH and moisture.

Bale

Hydraulic presses turn graded material into bales and blocks that stack evenly.

Load

We stuff and seal each container at the yard, then send it to Colombo for shipping.

Markets

Where our coir goesfrom the port of Colombo.

Most of our containers go to the United States, India, the United Kingdom and Australia, and we ship regularly to Europe, the Gulf and East Asia.

Every container ships from the port of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

What is the minimum order?

How long does it take from order to shipment?

Coco peat and coir fibre leave the gate 14 to 21 days after a confirmed order. Mattress coir and twine take 21 to 28 days because they need curing and spinning time.
