Husk
Mature husks arrive from the coconut triangle and the southern estates. Fresh husk gives longer, brighter fibre.
Janahitha Coir Mills · Matara District, Sri Lanka · est. 1980s
Coco peat, coir fibre, mattress coir and twine, milled by one family for three generations and loaded at Colombo for buyers who order in volume.
Four lines
Growing-media distributors, fibre importers, mattress makers and hop-yard suppliers each buy a different part of the coconut. We make all four, on one yard, so a mixed container is one order.

Coir pith, washed or unwashed, compressed 5:1 into blocks and bricks.
Specification
Golden bristle and mixed fibre, extracted, dried and pressed into export bales.
Specification
Curled, twisted fibre for mattress, upholstery and rubberised coir makers.
Specification
Two- and three-ply coir yarn, hop twine and rope, spooled or in hanks.
SpecificationContainers, not bricks
Serious buyers qualify themselves. Pick a line, drag the quantity, and see how many containers it fills before you ask us anything.
Indicative loads. Exact counts depend on packing and pallet choice; we confirm on the quote.
Husk to container
Scroll sideways through the mill. Every stage happens on our own ground in Denipitiya.

Mature husks arrive from the coconut triangle and the southern estates. Fresh husk gives longer, brighter fibre.

Husks are soaked to soften the pith so the fibre separates without breaking.

Spiked drums tear husk into long bristle, mixed fibre and pith. Nothing is wasted: each stream becomes a product.

Fibre and pith dry on open yards under the southern sun, turned by hand until moisture falls under the grade.

Fibre is sieved and cleaned; pith is aged and sieved; twine is spun and tested for runnage and strength.

Hydraulic presses turn loose material into bales and blocks that stack evenly and fill a container to its weight limit.

Containers are stuffed at the yard and sealed. Documents go to you the same day; the box goes to Colombo.
Where it goes
Half the world's sourcing searches for coir come from the United States; India, the United Kingdom and Australia make up most of the rest. For forty years our coir reached them under exporters' names. From 2026 it ships under ours.
Markets and shipping terms
Three generations
Janahitha Fibre Mills started in the 1980s with a defibring drum and a drying yard in the coconut country south of Akuressa. The third generation runs the same yard, bigger, with the same rule: the fibre that leaves the gate is fibre we would buy.
Our storyWhy buyers switch to the mill
No exporter margin, no second warehouse. The price you get is the mill price plus freight.
EC, pH, moisture and impurity are measured before pressing. The figures travel with the container.
MOQ, container load and lead time are published for every line, so a quote is a confirmation, not a negotiation.
Enquiries are answered within 24 hours, every day of the year, on WhatsApp or email, by someone at the mill.
